The article presents historical information on the classification and typology of cities in Uzbekistan in 1917-1941, the division of cities into small, medium, large and large in terms of population, the impact of administrative changes in 1918-1920 on the number of cities, the ethnic composition of the population of cities, in the administrative and economic zoning of Soviet power. Also, on the basis of an extensive scientific literature, issues about the dynamics of the number of cities and the factors influencing it are highlighted.
