Thermal excitations in half-filled subbands Landau and the thermodynamics of a two-dimensional electron gas

Annotatsiya

The thermodynamic properties of a two-dimensional electron gas in half-filled Landau subbands have been analyzed. The study have carried out based on a Gaussian distribution of thedensity of states. Analytical formulas for the internal energy and heat capacity were derived.Considering intrasubband and intersubband thermic excitations, expressions were obtained forthe low and high temperature limits. The reasons for the peak observed in the temperature dependence of the heat capacity are discussed. It is shown that the finite width of the subbandleads to the saturation of the internal energy of the electron gas. The analytical results aregraphically compared with numerical calculations. Furthermore, comparisons were made forGaAs and InAs materials with spherically symmetric band structures.
