In recent years, interest in natural photosensitizers has increased, which is associated not onlywith their ability to effectively absorb light, photo-activity, biocompatibility and relatively lowtoxicity, but also with the possibility of obtaining from local resources, as well as a widevariety of their natural raw material base. In this work, the spectral and photo-physicalproperties of a unique group of photosensitizers − derivatives of furocoumarins (imperatorin,isopimpinellin, prangenin and umbelliferone), isolated from Ferula plants (Apiaceae family)are studied. The absorption and photoluminescence spectra of such compounds in theultraviolet and visible regions of the spectrum were studied. To theoretically substantiate theexperimental data, calculations were performed using the quantum-chemical software packageORCA. The research results showed that most of the studied furocoumarin derivatives are characterized by effective absorption in the range of 300−320 nm; high ∆E(S1-T1) values (1.0−1.2eV) indicate limited efficiency of the classical ISC channel, their photo-biological action ismainly due to photochemical interaction with psoralen-type DNA, at the same time umbelliferone is characterized by pronounced fluorescence.
