The article examines the pragmatic mechanics of plurilingualism and language dominance in news translation across English, Russian, and Uzbek outlets. Drawing on audience design, indexing, and framing, it shows how power relations are re-encoded in target texts through evaluative lexis, modality, and naming practices (Bell, 1984; Entman, 1993; Silverstein, 2003; Fairclough, 1995). When English global copy is treated as a source norm, Russian and Uzbek versions often recalibrate stance by shifting attribution, quoting, and headline semantics, thereby redistributing “symbolic power” across languages (Bourdieu, 1991; Venuti, 1995). Code-switching, calquing, and register alignment can either entrench translator invisibility or legitimize local adaptation depending on the skopos and institutional policy (Vermeer, 1989/2004; Hatim & Mason, 1997). Examples focus on headlines, lexical choice, and quote packaging; recommendations include skopos-driven guidelines, corpus-based monitoring, and explicit stylebooks. The conclusion frames translators as managers of social indexicality as much as linguistic transfer in a plurilingual media ecology.
