The article analyzes the stages of perceiving a literary text in the recipient’s thinking through an eight-step algorithm. The process includes: reception, activation of semantic elements, integration of semantic elements, recognition of representations, categorization of representations, formation of memorable patterns, re-categorization, and ultimately, meaning-making. The methodological basis of the study is the system-activity methodology developed by G. P. Shchedrovitsky. Descriptive analysis, introspection, and interpretation serve as the main methods. The literature review provides the theoretical framework of perception, while examples from literary works illustrate how comprehension unfolds step by step. The findings demonstrate that literary text perception is a complex, systemic process where the reader’s cognitive activity plays a decisive role in constructing meaning. Furthermore, the article highlights that perception is shaped not only by linguistic structures but also by psychological, cultural, and historical contexts that influence interpretation. Cognitive linguistics and hermeneutic approaches are also considered to show how readers mobilize prior knowledge, life experience, and aesthetic sensitivity when constructing meaning. The analysis underscores that the act of reading is dialogic in nature: it creates an interactive exchange between text and reader, allowing multiple layers of interpretation to emerge. This reveals literature as an inexhaustible source of meaning, open to diverse perspectives.
