This paper offers a comprehensive analysis of the antinomy of “laughter and tears” from philosophical, psychological, aesthetic, and socio-cultural perspectives. It integrates Kant’s theory of antinomies, Aristotle’s aesthetics, Hegelian dialectics, Freud’s psychological insights, and Bakhtin’s socio-philosophical interpretations. In addition, modern approaches from psychology and neuroscience – particularly the studies of Provine (2000) and Vingerhoets (2013) are used to explain the emotional and biological mechanisms of laughter and tears. A comparative approach highlights the connections between Eastern classical literature, especially Alisher Navoi’s heritage, and Western philosophical traditions, showing how both cultural domains assign meaning to laughter and tears in art, literature, and human life. The originality of the paper lies in interpreting “laughter and tears” metaphorically as a prism: just as a prism refracts light into its spectral colors, these phenomena reveal multiple dimensions of human aesthetic and existential experience. Thus, laughter and tears are not contradictions but a dialectical unity, fundamental to human self-understanding.
