The article investigates the notion of “concept” as one of the fundamental categories in modern linguistics, psycholinguistics, and cognitive science. Special attention is given to the semantic, pragmatic, and cultural dimensions of concepts, as well as their function in structuring knowledge and shaping human communication. The study emphasizes the relevance of conceptual metaphor theory (Lakoff & Johnson, 1980), frame semantics (Fillmore, 1982), and cultural-linguistic approaches in describing the mental representation of reality. Through a comparative perspective, the research explores how core concepts such as Heimat (homeland), Freiheit (freedom), and Arbeit (work) are linguistically and culturally interpreted in German and Uzbek languages. The analysis reveals both universal features and culture-specific nuances, showing how concepts embody historical experiences, worldview, and social values. The article underlines that conceptual studies are not only theoretical but also practical, contributing to intercultural communication, translation studies, and language teaching. Moreover, the findings highlight the interdisciplinary character of conceptual research, linking linguistic theories with insights from philosophy, anthropology, and sociology, thereby demonstrating the crucial role of concepts in bridging language, thought, and culture.
