Annotatsiya

This article explores the effectiveness of English-language media in teaching speaking skills to senior secondary school students. The research focuses on how various types of media – films, podcasts, interviews, and news broadcasts – can foster learners’ oral fluency, accuracy, and confidence. Through analysis of recent educational strategies and empirical evidence, the study underscores the integration of media as a practical and engaging approach to enhance speaking proficiency. It concludes with recommendations for incorporating media-based speaking tasks into the secondary school curriculum. The present study introduces a novel approach to teaching speaking skills by integrating authentic English-language media materials into the curriculum at the senior stage of secondary education. While previous research has often emphasized the importance of speaking proficiency, few studies have explored the systematic use of real-life media content – such as podcasts, news reports, interviews, and online videos – as core instructional tools in secondary school contexts. This study fills that gap by designing and implementing a media-based speaking instruction model tailored specifically for students in upper secondary grades.
