This article investigates the variability of lexical stress and accent patterns across modern English dialects, including British Received Pronunciation (RP), General American (GA), and Jamaican English (JE). Through acoustic analysis of polysyllabic words extracted from the International Corpus of English, the study identifies systematic variations in stress placement patterns and their phonetic correlates. Results demonstrate that while RP and GA predominantly utilize pitch prominence to signal stress, JE shows a marked preference for penultimate stress placement, primarily cued by syllable duration. These findings reveal how historical developments and substrate influences have shaped distinct rhythmic patterns across dialects. The study further examines the sociolinguistic implications of these variations, particularly their role in marking regional identity and their impact on inter-dialectal communication. Pedagogically, the results underscore the need for dialect-aware approaches in English language teaching, especially for learners navigating multiple stress systems. This research contributes to ongoing discussions in variational phonology by providing empirical evidence of predictable stress pattern differences across globally significant English varieties.
