Teaching English to young learners (TEYL) has emerged as one of the most rapidly expanding and pedagogically significant fields within applied linguistics and language education. As an increasing number of countries, including Uzbekistan, introduce English instruction at the primary school level, questions of methodology — which approaches are developmentally appropriate, linguistically effective, and motivationally sustainable for children aged five to twelve — have acquired both theoretical urgency and practical importance. This article investigates effective methodological approaches to teaching English to young learners, focusing on four principal approaches: the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach, the Total Physical Response (TPR) method, storytelling and play-based instruction, and digital and multimodal learning environments. Drawing on a systematic review of empirical studies published between 2015 and 2025 and qualitative classroom observation data from primary schools in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, the study evaluates the effectiveness of each approach in relation to four outcome dimensions: vocabulary acquisition, oral communicative competence, learner motivation, and classroom engagement. The findings demonstrate that no single method is universally superior; rather, an integrated multimethod approach — combining TPR for kinesthetic vocabulary grounding, storytelling for narrative and grammatical input, communicative tasks for interactive output, and digital tools for personalized practice — produces the most sustained and holistic language development outcomes for young learners. Implications for curriculum design, teacher training, and educational policy in the Uzbek primary English education context are discussed.
