This article analyzes the publication history, international translations, critical reception, and academic prestige of the novel Karpentariya (2006) by the Indigenous Australian author Alexis Wright. Utilizing a comparative-documentary analysis, the study aims to examine how this work, initially released by a small independent publisher, ascended to the status of world literature, thereby drawing practical conclusions for Uzbek literary translation and cultural diplomacy. The findings indicate that the international recognition of the work is heavily contingent upon institutional support, the proficiency of the translator-mediator, and the alignment of cultural diplomacy networks. This interplay of factors explains the contrast between the commercial failure of the Italian translation and the success of the Chinese translation. The final section of the article examines potential linguistic, cultural, and ethical challenges that may arise in a prospective Uzbek translation of the novel.
