This research undertakes a systematic comparative analysis of translation features and strategies applied to English and Uzbek newspaper, journal, and media headlines. Situated at the intersection of contrastive linguistics, media discourse analysis, and translation studies, the study explores how headline translation is shaped by typological differences, structural constraints, cultural norms, and pragmatic expectations. A parallel corpus comprising 150 English media headlines and their Uzbek translations, spanning political, economic, socio-cultural, sports, and science and technology domains, was analyzed using a mixed-methods research design. Quantitative analysis measured headline length, word count, verb preservation vs. omission, and punctuation use, while qualitative analysis examined translation strategies following the framework of literal translation, adaptation, modulation, explicitation, and grammatical transformation. Findings reveal that English source headlines average 6.8 words, featuring elliptical syntax, a high frequency of present simple tense, and minimal punctuation, whereas Uzbek target headlines average 9.2 words with fuller, often clause-based structures. Literal translation accounts for some of the corpus, with modulation, adaptation, and explicitation emerging as the dominant strategies for preserving communicative impact. These findings contribute new empirical evidence to media translation theory and offer practical guidelines for journalists, translators, and media practitioners.
