Annotatsiya

Compression and decompression of a text are processes involving the reduction and expansion of its volume and informational density and depend on the text’s communicative purpose. For adequate text perception, it is necessary to consider the reader’s background knowledge, understood as an informational reservoir shared by the speaker and the listener. From the perspective of compression and decompression, a cognitive script in a fiction text may be verbalized in different ways. The article analyzes an extended cognitive script of a duel from the novel La Dame de Monsoreau by the French writer Alexandre Dumas. The analysis reveals that the degree of compression or decompression of a script is crucial for its effective perception and comprehension by the addressee and depends on the scope of the author’s artistic intent. The study demonstrates that, against the background of a large, extended script, the author can simultaneously realize several artistic objectives.
