Annotatsiya

This article explores German anthroponyms—personal names and surnames—focusing on their origins, historical development, and linguocultural features. As a branch of linguistics, anthroponymy not only performs the function of naming individuals but also reflects the history of society, its social structure, religious traditions, and cultural values. The formation of German anthroponyms dates back to the ancient Germanic tribes, expanded during the period of Christianization through the adoption of biblical names, and was further enriched by socio-economic changes that led to the emergence and stabilization of surnames. The article also discusses the classification of German anthroponyms, their semantic layers, and the influence of globalization on contemporary naming practices.
