The article is devoted to the analysis of national character in the prose of Abdulla Qahhor as one of the major representatives of Uzbek realist literature of the twentieth century. It examines how stable features of the national mentality are reflected in the writer’s artistic images, including respect for traditions, peculiarities of speech, value systems, and attitudes toward fate and life. Special attention is paid to the role of satire and humor in revealing human weaknesses, as well as to the portrayal of female characters in whom obedience to tradition is combined with inner spiritual strength.
