The article examines the theoretical foundations and practical implementation of the communicative approach in teaching Russian as a foreign language (RFL). The results of pedagogical experience are analyzed, and the main achievements and limitations of applying this approach are identified. Particular attention is paid to the integration of communicative strategies into the teaching process, the role of authentic language materials, the objectives of intercultural education, as well as the prospects for the development of teaching methodology in the context of the digital environment and social media.
