The article provides a comparative analysis of the phonostylistic features of vowel sounds in English and Uzbek. The main objective of the study is to identify the stylistic functions of vowels within the vocalic systems of both languages and to analyze their expressive potential. Comparative-linguistic and phonostylistic methods are employed, drawing on examples from literary and spoken discourse in English and Uzbek to examine the role of vowels. Furthermore, the article offers a comparative examination of vowel usage across different functional styles (official, literary, and conversational), identifying language-specific intonational and expressive means. The analysis explores the impact of the rich vowel phoneme system of English, as well as stress and reduction phenomena (such as vowel reduction in unstressed syllables), on stylistic tone and expressiveness. In contrast, the study highlights the relatively stable pronunciation of vowels in Uzbek and discusses how vowel lengthening or alternation in certain contexts influences speech style. Particular attention is paid to assonance—the repetition of vowel sounds—which is shown to function as an important phonostylistic device for creating euphony in literary texts in both languages. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the stylistic potential of sounds in English and Uzbek and hold theoretical and practical significance for literary translation, linguistic research, and language teaching practice.
