The development of monologic and dialogic speech is a crucial aspect of foreign language education, particularly for students in philological institutions. Traditional teaching methods, such as grammar-translation and audio-lingual approaches, emphasize structured learning but often fail to foster communicative competence. In contrast, modern methodologies, including communicative language teaching (CLT), task-based learning (TBL), and digital-assisted strategies, aim to enhance students' interactive and spontaneous speaking abilities. This study presents a comparative analysis of traditional and modern methods in teaching monologic and dialogic speech, highlighting their advantages and limitations. The research examines key pedagogical principles, instructional techniques, and the role of technology in speech development. Findings suggest that while traditional methods provide a strong linguistic foundation, modern approaches are more effective in promoting fluency, engagement, and real-world communication skills. The study also discusses the integration of both approaches for a balanced and comprehensive teaching strategy. Implications for educators include adopting blended learning models that combine structured linguistic input with interactive, student-centered activities. The findings contribute to the ongoing discourse on optimizing speaking instruction in foreign language education.
