This article examines conflict studies and its significance in the field of sociology. It analyzes the function of the concept of conflict in fiction and explains the types and forms of artistic conflict through examples from the narrative genre. Within literary theory, the classifications of conflict proposed by Uzbek, English, and Russian scholars are compared, and the points of convergence and divergence between them are identified. The article draws on the views of such theorists as Terry Eagleton, Robbins, Tukhta Boboyev, Izzat Sultan, Abdullah Ulughov, and Dilmurod Quronov. Considerable attention is given to the importance of conflict in the narrative genre. In analyzing contemporary literary works, the article explores the function and purpose of artistic conflict in revealing the essence of modern storytelling. The manifestations of artistic conflict are examined through the works of contemporary writers, including Isajan Sultan’s Marriage and Fate, as well as Nazar Eshonqul’s Hand, The Wind Cannot Be Caught, and The Endless Sky.
