This article examines ways to develop pragmatic competence in English language classrooms. It describes the design of materials featuring varied practical exercises that target pragmatic skills and offers recommendations on teaching methods that foreground pragmatics as a core component of communicative competence. The paper also discusses the alignment and misalignment between commonly used language-teaching materials and authentic resources.
