The Study of the Alexander Theme in Uzbek Literary Scholarship is one of the intersections of Eastern and Western literary traditions and therefore requires particular scholarly attention. The sources of the Alexander figure are closely linked to the ancient Greek “Alexander Romance”, the works of Persian classical poets such as Nizami Ganjavi, and various samples of oral folk literature. In Uzbek literary studies, this theme began to be systematically investigated in the second half of the 20th century. Between 1991 and 2010, comparative-typological research expanded, where the image of Alexander was analyzed in comparison with epic heroes of folk literature and with Western literary traditions. Scholars such as F. Sulaymonova, B. Sarimsoqov, K. Imomov, H. Homidiy, and M. Jo‘rayev paid particular attention to similarities and differences in epic and written portrayals of Alexander, as well as to the migration of motifs and narrative structures. Furthermore, researchers like A. Hayitmetov, R. Vohidov, and H. Eshonqulov examined the role and artistic features of Alexander’s image in Alisher Navoi’s epic Saddi Iskandariy within the context of Uzbek classical literature. In recent studies (I. Ismoilov, Sh. Khudoyberdiyeva, and others), the genetic roots, folkloric interpretations, and poetic structures of Alexander’s image are analyzed through modern comparative approaches. These investigations allow for a complex study of the Alexander theme in Uzbek literary scholarship from historical-literary, comparative-typological, and poetic perspectives.
