This article examines the archaeological, historical, etymological, and cultural characteristics of the stationary hunting structures known as *arans* and *baylamas* (earthen ramparts) preserved on the Ustyurt Plateau. The study is based on archaeological evidence, written historical sources, folklore materials, toponymic data, remote-sensing imagery, and the author’s field investigations. The findings demonstrate that these structures were not merely technical facilities constructed for hunting wild animals, but complex architectural systems reflecting the economic organization, ecological knowledge, and cultural traditions of nomadic societies. The study also explores the historical and etymological development of the term *aran* and its significance in folklore and regional toponymy. The results contribute to a deeper understanding of the tangible and intangible heritage of the nomadic civilization of the Ustyurt region.
