This article examines the development of medicine in Turkestan in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, focusing on the coexistence of traditional healing practices and innovative approaches to the provision of medical care for the Muslim population. Drawing on evidence from the Samarkand, Syr-Darya, and Fergana regions, the study analyzes the activities of local outpatient clinics, their financial conditions, and the principal challenges they faced. Particular attention is given to the organization of inpatient medical care, the private medical practices of Russian physicians, and the attitudes of the local population toward these practitioners. The article also examines the provision of medical care to Muslim women in Turkestan and highlights the role of Russian physicians and nurses in this process.
