Annotatsiya

This article is devoted to the functional analysis of epigraphs in Russian and Uzbek literary works. The study identifies the semantic, pragmatic, and intertextual functions of epigraphs and compares their use within the literary traditions of the two nations. Special attention is paid to the role of the epigraph as a semantic and emotional guide that anticipates the reader’s perception of the main text. The methodology is based on a comparative analysis of texts by Russian writers F.M. Dostoevsky, A.S. Pushkin and authors Uzbek A. Qodiriy, O’. Hoshimov. The results demonstrate that epigraphs perform a multi-layered function: structural, compositional, ideological, and aesthetic.
