This article presents a comparative linguistic analysis of sports terminology in the German and Uzbek languages, focusing on the influence of linguistic structure, borrowing mechanisms, cultural identity, and historical development. The paper examines how German tends to form sport-related terms through internal compounding, while Uzbek predominantly incorporates borrowings—especially from Russian and English. The terminology of national sports is analyzed in terms of cultural symbolism and linguistic representation. Furthermore, the study explores current trends in language policy, purist movements aiming to replace foreign terms with native alternatives, and the challenges of term standardization. The findings suggest that utilizing internal linguistic resources and aligning terminology with cultural context are key to preserving national identity in sports discourse.
