This article analyzes the concept of discourse, discourse analysis, its developmental stages, and the characteristics of discourse as a sociolinguistic practice involving various actions or practices. It also notes that discourse is a state that develops within the act of speaking; therefore, the transition from language to speech occurs only through the act of utterance. Here, it is emphasized that discourse or the act of utterance must take into account the topic and its variables as considered by the speaker.
