The article examines the legal status and operational features of the institution of the investigative judge in Uzbekistan, which was formed by combining the French and Kazakh legal models. Based on a comparative legal analysis of the legislation of Uzbekistan, France, Kazakhstan, and Russia, the article considers the investigative judge's powers of judicial control during the pre-trial stage, including the authorization of pre-trial restrictions, wiretapping, and asset seizure to protect the rights of suspects and accused persons. The analysis reveals structural differences between the Uzbek model and its foreign analogues, as well as gaps in the delineation of competencies between the investigative judge and the trial judge. The authors substantiate the need for reforms aimed at strengthening judicial independence and public trust in criminal justice, including by establishing the investigative judge as an independent organizational body and reinforcing safeguards against pressure from the prosecution and investigative authorities.
