This article examines in detail the development of students' speech competence as a pedagogical problem. From a pedagogical standpoint, a number of factors related to the development of speech competence are analyzed. The dimensions and types of communicative competence, the main challenges of oral communication competence, and the differences between adults and adolescents at the B1 (intermediate) level in terms of developing oral communication skills are presented in a detailed comparison.
