This article analyzes the concept and essence of foreign policy within the context of contemporary international processes. In a narrow sense, foreign policy is viewed as the set of relations between independent states and other actors in international relations, representing political interaction with other countries. Political relations between states and other international actors are aimed at establishing, maintaining, and developing various ties with other states, nations, and peoples. It is these political relations between states that serve as the foundation for establishing and developing other types of international relations, such as economic, scientific-technical, and cultural. An analysis of relevant sources shows that the concepts of "foreign policy" and "international relations" differ in their essence and content. The concept of "foreign policy" is used to denote the political relations between individual states; that is, the political actions undertaken by one state toward another are considered the foreign policy of the former. The concept of "international relations" is broader, encompassing not only political relations but also other types of interaction and communication between subjects in the international arena.
