Pragmatic competence is an integral element of communicative competence. This article begins by clarifying the definition of pragmatic competence, referencing the perspectives and details provided by various linguists. Additionally, the importance of developing language learners' pragmatic competence for effective communication is discussed. The necessity and appropriateness of teaching pragmatic competence during foreign language instruction is demonstrated through examples. Hypotheses are also proposed.
