This article analyzes the theoretical and legal essence of the concept of the investigative judge. The history of the formation of the investigative judge institution, its role in criminal proceedings, and its significance in law enforcement activities are examined from a scientific and theoretical perspective. Additionally, the scope of the investigative judge’s powers, the role of judicial oversight, and the function of safeguarding individual rights and freedoms are elucidated. Based on a comparative analysis of foreign countries’ experiences and national legislative norms, scientific conclusions and proposals for improving the institution of the investigative judge are presented.
