The article examines text as a central tool for developing communicative competence in teaching Russian as a foreign language. Text is viewed as a didactic unit that brings learners into real communication through intentions, genres, styles, and sociocultural context. The study argues that text-based instruction integrates language skills, strengthens reading and listening in connection with speaking and writing, and supports purposeful vocabulary and grammar development through communicative tasks. The paper discusses principles of text selection, the balance between authenticity and adaptation, the role of genre diversity, and a three-stage teaching model comprising pre-text, while-text, and post-text activities aimed at measurable communicative outcomes.
