The article analyzes issues related to the legal nature of the concept of "compensation" in the civil law system. The main focus is on the differences between compensation and related concepts - "reimbursement of damages", "indemnification" and "moral harm" - as well as the consequences of terminological inconsistencies in legislation. Additionally, a comparative analysis is conducted on the provisions regarding compensation in the Civil Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, problems encountered in judicial practice, and approaches in international experience. The author substantiates the need to unify the institution of compensation, ensure terminological consistency, and align it with international standards. This approach serves to effectively protect the rights and interests of injured parties and ensure legal clarity and stability in court decisions.
