This article analyzes the territorial distribution, specialization, and role of blacksmithing and related craft industries in the economic life of Karakalpakstan and Khorezm regions at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. Based on archival documents, local sources, and observations of Russian travelers, the number of blacksmith workshops and their various branches (weaponry, tool-making, agricultural implement production, embossing, coppersmithing, knife-making, and others) are identified. The article highlights the location of blacksmith workshops in villages and cities, the market prices of manufactured products, and their role in domestic and foreign trade. Information is also provided on the widespread traditions of manufacturing horse-riding equipment among the Khiva Turkmens, including production volumes and artistic decorations. The article assesses the significance of blacksmith products not only in terms of consumption but also in economic and social life.
