The article analyzes the theoretical foundations and practical significance of investigative examination based on the experience of foreign countries. Specifically, a comparative legal analysis of criminal procedure legislation in Russia, Kazakhstan, Japan, Germany, and China regarding the institution of examination and its types was conducted. The analysis revealed that in most foreign countries, examination is regulated alongside other investigative actions such as physical examination, exhumation, and search. Moreover, it is noted that the types of examinations in foreign countries are less diverse compared to national legislation, and some types, such as inspection of buildings, structures, and surrounding areas, are not provided for. The article also highlights the requirement for a judge's warrant to conduct an examination of a dwelling. Based on the research findings, the author developed a number of proposals and recommendations for improving current national legislation.
