This article examines the evolution of the right to freedom of speech, tracing its development from ancient civilizations to the present and highlighting key historical milestones and social transformations. The research explores the legal foundations and institutional mechanisms for safeguarding this right, alongside international standards that govern freedom of expression. Special emphasis is placed on the challenges the digital age presents, including their implications for legal regulation and enforcement practices. The study also focuses on recent legal reforms and ongoing issues in the practical realization of freedom of speech in the Republic of Uzbekistan, analyzing the effectiveness of current approaches in the context of the information society.
