The article provides a scientific and theoretical analysis of the peculiarities of the activities of attorney self-government bodies in the Romano-Germanic legal system. The organization of the body of lawyer self-government is considered using the example of Germany and France, the provision of the organizational and legal foundations of the institution of the legal profession, the legal status of lawyer formations, advocacy, taxes and other mandatory fees for lawyers, the activities of lawyer associations, the relationship of the legal profession with the justice authorities and other government bodies. The trends in the evolutionary transition of the institution of advocacy from a state body to a self-regulatory organization are also analyzed.
