Communicative Competence as a Component of the Professional Expertise of Prospective Primary School Teachers

In the professional training of a future primary school teacher, knowledge and skills related to communication occupy a special place because they directly shape lesson organization, the ability to listen to a pupil, and the precision of answers to questions. The purpose of the study was to substantiate communicative competence as a key component of the professional mastery of the future primary school teacher and to test the effectiveness of a pedagogical experiment designed to develop it. The study used a three-stage pedagogical experiment, observation, interview, expert assessment of tasks, and comparative analysis across groups; the reliability of the measuring tool was checked through an internal-consistency criterion. After the formative stage, the accuracy of communication reached M=4.71, completeness of answer to a question reached M=4.58, reflective comment reached M=4.44, and pair collaboration reached M=4.39. In the control posttest, differences between groups were confirmed at p=0.004, which indicates a stable positive shift in the culture of communicative activity. The findings show that communication-oriented exercises, pair and small-group work, and reflective tasks meaningfully strengthen the professional mastery of the future primary school teacher. The scientific contribution of the study lies in clarifying communicative competence as an independent and measurable component of professional mastery and in proposing a criterion system for its assessment.
