The article examines the theoretical and methodological foundations of the cognitive approach to terminology. It identifies the characteristics of terms as linguistic units that represent scientific knowledge and are associated with human conceptual activity. The study establishes that the development of cognitive terminology is related to the integration of the anthropocentric paradigm, cognitive linguistics, and terminology studies. It analyzes the role of cognitive mechanisms such as conceptualization, categorization, metaphorization, and frame modeling in shaping the conceptual content of terms. The semantic, cognitive, and linguocultural dimensions of terms and their functions in systematizing scientific knowledge are characterized. The influence of professional experience and national-cultural knowledge on the formation of terminological systems is also demonstrated. The findings confirm that terms should be interpreted not only as nominative units but also as cognitive units that conceptualize and systematize scientific knowledge.
