The functions of irony, imagery and metaphor in Barbara Kingsolver’s “Demon Copperhead”

Annotatsiya

The article analyses selected literary devices and their functions in the novel “Demon Copperhead” by Barbara Kingsolver. Through the application of the methods of stylistic and contextual analysis, the research establishes the stylistic purpose of such literary devices as irony, imagery, and metaphor in the narrative. Characterization is one of the significant contributions of the aforementioned devices while the construction of the setting is primarily attributed to imagery and the exploration of broader themes of the narrative is achieved through metaphor and irony. Overall, these stylistic devices contribute to the authenticity of characterization and reinforce the social issues represented in the narrative.
