Annotatsiya

This article discusses the types of musical sound systems, their historical development, and their role and significance in the formation of maqom as well as in contemporary Uzbek music. At the same time, issues related to sound systems, possible solutions, and relevant research are explored. During the Renaissance and Baroque periods, the choice of temperament in tuning musical instruments was a creative process. Each performer not only selected their instrument and mode (lad) but also tuned them according to a specific temperament. In modern times, due to the “monopoly” of equal temperament, this issue is no longer considered pressing. Indeed, once the problem of sound systems was largely resolved through equal temperament, other tuning systems gradually fell out of attention. However, it should be noted that ancient sound systems—used prior to equal temperament and serving as fundamental elements in the formation of maqoms—were historically regarded as essential scientific and musical foundations. In later periods, global efforts in the study of sound systems began to intensify. Many specialists started conducting experiments aimed at reconstructing and improving national musical instruments. Early attempts focused on refining classical music and its specialized instruments, as well as creating modern forms of instrumental ensembles.
