Annotatsiya

This scientific article analyzes the origin of the qanun instrument, its historical development, its role in Eastern musical culture, and the scientific-theoretical foundations of the traditional performance school. It also provides an in-depth discussion of issues related to the maqam system, pitch structures, modal systems, and performance techniques. The formation of the qanun, its stages of development in the Near and Middle East, performance styles, and modern interpretations are examined on a scientific basis. The most important feature of the qanun is its microtonal capability. With the help of mandals, the performer can produce intervals smaller than semitones, allowing for accurate expression of the complex modal structures of the maqam system. In terms of sound structure, the qanun is well adapted to Eastern musical systems. It integrates diatonic, chromatic, and microchromatic scales, making it a highly versatile instrument. Today, the qanun is widely used not only in traditional music but also in contemporary compositions. Composers utilize its rich possibilities to create new genres and styles. Additionally, qanun performance is taught as a separate subject in music education institutions, which plays an important role in training professional performers.
