Annotatsiya

This article examines the role of leaderboards and rewards in shaping group interaction in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) classrooms. With the growing use of gamification in education, ESP teaching is increasingly influenced by tools designed to enhance learner motivation and classroom engagement. The study adopts a qualitative approach to analyze theoretical literature on gamification, instructional design, and classroom communication. The findings show that leaderboards and rewards can positively influence participation, communication, and collaborative involvement by encouraging competition, providing immediate feedback, and recognizing learner effort. At the same time, the study reveals that poorly designed gamified systems may increase anxiety, reduce cooperation, and create unequal participation among learners. Team-based and progress- oriented reward models are found to be more effective than highly competitive individual systems. The article concludes that leaderboards and rewards should be aligned with pedagogical goals and learner needs in order to promote both language development and positive group dynamics in ESP classrooms.
