Frame-semantic and cognitive-pragmatic modelling of axiological codes in english and uzbek paremiological discourse

Annotatsiya

The article examines the linguistic mechanisms through which axiological meanings are structured, preserved and reactivated in English and Uzbek paremiological discourse. The study proceeds from the premise that a proverb cannot be reduced either to a concise moral statement or to a passive repository of ethnocultural information, because its evaluative force emerges only when a culturally recognizable scenario is connected with a concrete communicative situation. The theoretical framework integrates frame semantics, cognitive linguistics, linguoculturology and pragmatics. The empirical base is formed from English and Uzbek paremiographic sources, while the analytical procedure combines frame- semantic reconstruction, contextual interpretation, comparative-typological analysis and cognitive-pragmatic description. The results demonstrate that apparently different proverbial images may organize equivalent evaluative scenarios, whereas formally similar units may diverge in the configuration of social roles, presuppositions and communicative force. Particular attention is paid to the axiological domains of foresight, labour, speech responsibility, solidarity, experience and interpersonal conduct. On the basis of the analysis, the article proposes a frame- based account of axiological coding in which proverbial meaning is treated as the interaction of a situational frame, culturally profiled value, inferential pattern and discourse function. Such an approach makes it possible to distinguish genuinely comparable conceptual structures from superficial lexical similarity and provides a methodologically consistent basis for contrastive paremiology.
