Annotatsiya

This article offers a comparative analysis of how the linguocultural code is activated in the paremiological funds of English and Uzbek. The main purpose is to identify which cultural scripts, evaluative orientations, and communicative priorities are foregrounded when proverbs are used in socio-cultural discourse. The study combines comparative- typological, semantic, pragmatic, and discourse-oriented methods. A corpus of English and Uzbek proverbs was arranged into thematic clusters involving work, family, speech behavior, caution, wealth, social status, education, and moral conduct. The findings demonstrate that the two proverb traditions share a significant universal core, yet they differ in the distribution of cultural emphasis. English paremias tend to organize experience through agency, prudence, self-discipline, and practical calculation; Uzbek paremias more often conceptualize experience through relational ethics, respect for elders, family honor, social interconnectedness, and the moral authority of communal judgment. The activation of the linguocultural code is especially clear in metaphorical source domains, role hierarchies, implicit addressee positions, and patterns of approval and disapproval. The article also shows that a comparative reading of proverbs is productive not only for linguoculturology but also for discourse studies, translation, intercultural communication, and the interpretation of national worldviews. By tracing convergences and divergences in the proverb stock of the two languages, the study clarifies the mechanisms through which stable verbal formulas continue to generate fresh socio-cultural meaning in contemporary discourse [3] [10] [11].
