This article presents the results of a comparative analysis of burial ground designs from the Bronzeand Early Iron Ages, based on archaeological research at the Khanabad-1 site. It attempts to revealdistinctive features of the burial traditions associated with the nomadic and agricultural cultures ofBronze Age Fergana. While the funerary rituals align with the main characteristics of the Eilatan culture, the discovery of a complex of richly ornamented molded and painted ceramics – featuring specificallyagricultural motifs – is unprecedented for this cultural group. The construction of graves and burial ritesat Khanabad-1 largely correspond to the less-studied burial grounds of the Eilatan culture in western andsouthwestern Fergana. However, they also closely resemble the burial traditions of Bronze Age nomadiccultures. Notably, a grave containing a crouched skeleton, characteristic of the Late Bronze Age, wasdiscovered in the eastern part of the valley. Additionally, cenotaphs were identified at the Khanabad-1site, a practice typical of nomadic tribes from the preceding period. These findings suggest that thepeople associated with the Khanabad-1 burial ground, representing the eastern variant of the Eilatanculture, were likely the successors of the nomadic Kairakkum culture.
