Studies of the angular distribution of the degree of polarization of diffusely reflected and transmitted natural solar radiation through the layers of the atmosphere

Annotatsiya

The article presents a calculation of the angular distribution of the degree of polarization of diffusely reflected and transmitted natural solar radiation from atmospheric layers under multiple Rayleigh scattering. The calculations are performed within the framework of Chandrasekhar's S,T-matrix theory using the factorization method. Some peculiarities associated with the determination of numerical values of the X,Y-functions using the method of successive approximations are described. It is shown that for m=m0, where the observation angle equals the illumination angle, a singularity is observed in the angular distribution of the degree of polarization of diffusely transmitted radiation. The degree of polarization of the transmitted radiation around this point changes discontinuously. The changes in the angular width of the discontinuity are also investigated as a function of the illumination angle and optical thickness.
