This article explores the works of the French writer Stendhal through a literary analysis of his novels The Red and the Black and The Charterhouse of Parma. The study highlights the existing antitheses between realism and romanticism in these works. The narrative situations depicted through the author’s artistic mastery are compared with the real cognitive world, and psychological approaches in the formation of characters are analyzed.
