The article examines the use of metaphorical methods of description, especially individual metaphors, and their artistic functions in the poem "Steppe Dreams" by the people's poet of Uzbekistan and Karakalpakstan, Hero of Uzbekistan I.Yusupov, who made a special contribution to the development of the genre of lyric-epic poetry in Karakalpak literature. It is argued that individual metaphors are used in the poem based on the poet's deep poetic research and that they are transformed into an artistic means for depicting imaginary thoughts in a realistic manner. The poem also analyzes the artistic functions of individual metaphors in depicting the nature of the Ustyurt plain, the animal world, animate and inanimate objects with the help of a living image.
