This article presents views on phonetic changes observed in the dialects of the Surkhandarya region, in particular combinatorial and positional changes. Research materials collected in 12 districts, such as Baysunsky, Sherabadsky, and Kumkurgan, and from websites such as https://dialectcorpora.uz/#, https://dialect.uz/, https://arxiv.dialect.uz/ hamda https://areal.dialect.uz/ were analyzed from a linguistic point of view and based on the speech of the ethnic population. Assimilation, dissimilation, metathesis, as well as combinatorial changes such as prosthesis, epithesis, spirantization, and elision, which occurred as a result of the interaction of sounds, and it was emphasized that the transformation of a gliding vowel into an explosive sound, which has not yet been observed in Uzbek dialects, may take place. The article reveals phonetic phenomena that have arisen in dialects, as well as areal features of the phonological system of the Uzbek language, and touches upon their connection with socio-historical factors. All statements are supported by statistics from the above-mentioned database and corpus materials.
